UpBeat Improv, Elementary Level – South Davis Elementary

This elementary team showed evidence of exceptional teamwork. During the interview with the Appraisal team their teamwork techniques were freely discrussed and moved the team of Appraisers to make this nomination. This young team has laid the foundation for their further Challenge Solving.

For Outstanding Design, Engineering or Performance

Cartoon DImensions, Elementary Level, Ellicott Elementary team

Wow! What an exceptional use of materials and engineering design! This team obviously spent hours and hours making unique costumes that demonstrated their artistic abilities, sense of humor, and engineering expertise. Their workmanship was particularly evident in their monkey costume made up of 1,000 popsicle sticks and the joyfulness of hundreds of cupcake papers for their cupcake fairy. And what a surprise when a pineapple grew before our very eyes! Their work was meticuluous and miraculous! We loved the fabulous visual impact!

Cartoon DImensions, Middle Level, Mildred E. Strang Middle School team

A chohesive production that mesmorized the Appraisers with the use of wordplay, puns and humor. They even used this dramatic style to incorporate the 2D to 3D object into their skit. With the use of growing “IVY” (a pun on I.V) they brought back to life an alligator, by opening it’s 2D mouth with a chemical reaction that blew up a balloon! Well done team!

Cartoon DImensions, Middle Level, Dobbs Ferry Middle School team, Instant Challenge

Their performance overall was well crafted with subtle humor, clear examples, and obvious integrated teamwork. They were a “tight” act that gave us the greatest laughter all day. The rich details they all worve into their skit suggested they understood the Challenge and their audience.

DaVincI Award

For Outstanding Creativity

GuessDImate!, Middle Level, Orchard Park Middle School team

This monumental team wowed the Appraisers with their ‘over-the-top’ props and sets using unique designs and unconventional building materials. These awesome Greekesque Structure overwhelmingly demonstrated the DaVinci DI Spirit!
