Challenge Section II.C.4.b.2
In this section, it states that each Side Trip will be appraised for “The quality and workmanship that is evident.”
Because the effort that went into the production of a Side Trip may not be immediately apparent in the quality and workmanship but is also very important, this should read:“The quality, and workmanship or effort that is evident.”

Challenge Section III.A
Please consider only the innovation of Diego Velasquez (Velazquez) the painter, rather than the soldier/conquistador.
Lao Tse, Lao-Tse, Lao Tzu and Lao-Tzu are all variations of the spelling of the name of the same man who is credited with the beginnings of Taoism.
11/22/2000
Challenge Section IV.B
The broom in IV.B.7th bullet must be commercially available, not team-made. All of the items listed in IV.B. must arrive at the StuDIo intact, i.e. in their original form. Once in the StuDIo, the team members may alter any of their props as long as they do so carefully and do not create a safety hazard for team members or Appraisers. Any unsafe manipulation of props will be stopped by the Appraisers; as with any safety issue, the ruling of the Tournament officials is final. Team Managers should monitor the use of all items, including those in the Tool Box, and stop the manipulation of any props if they present any potential hazards during team practices
INCREDIBLE TECH EFFECTS CLARIFICATIONS
10/25/2000
Challenge Section II.B.4
Teams are to be flexible in placing items on the audience side of the Inspector Detector box because of the potential use of a chair or wheelchair by the Inspector Detector.
ANONYMOUSLY YOURS CLARIFICATIONS
None with the exception of the two listed above for ALL challenges.
Invitation to Judge! – A WESTERN REGION Membership Requirement!
Each school is required to forward, to the Director, the name, address, and telephone number of one person willing to judge for each two teams they will send to our Tournament. We also need the names of volunteers to act as score runners, registrars, and tabulation room personnel on the day of the tournament. Please submit these names no later than 1/15/01. This is a critical item for all of our teams if our judging corps is to be representative of our entire association. Any member not submitting the name of a judge will not be allowed to compete. While each school is required to submit the name of one judge and volunteer (for each two competing teams) our teams are always better off if we have more than the minimum number available, please encourage anyone in your school community to help us assure the best judging possible! Please remember that judges MUST attend our judges training workshop (2/3/01 8am to 1pm) in order to be certified to judge. The Judge’s invitation letter and response form were included in the November Newsletter.
Last Newsletter for a while…
This, the December Newsletter is the last of the monthly newsletters for this Creative Problem Solving Season.
The next Newsletter will be our Tournament Newsletter mailed the week following the State tournament. There will also be a newsletter following the International DestiNation 2001 – Global Finals (d2k.1).
This does not mean you are on your own! In the next several weeks you will be getting important information from the regional offices including The Regional Tournament Schedule and other information. Please read this information carefully when it arrives and call your Regional Director immediately with any problems. Every attempt will be made to be flexible with scheduling and with problem solving….but the key to true flexibility is TIME! The sooner you let me know you have a problem the better able I am to make adjustments.

Thoughts to ponder….
“A minutes success pays the failure of years” – Robert Browning
“The line between failure and success is so fine that we scarcely know when we pass it. So fine that we are often on the line and do not know it.” -Elbert Hubbard
“The key to success isn’t much good until one discovers the right lock to insert it in!” – Tehyi Hsieh
“Luck is a matter of preparation meeting preparation” – Oprah Winfrey
“Be prepared” – Boy Scouts
“You cannot put the same shoe on every foot.” – Publilius Syrus
“If you cannot dream it, you cannot do it.” – Anonymous
“It isn’t that they cannot see the solution. It is that they can’t see the problem.” – GK Chesterton
“Be brave enough to live life creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition.” – Alan Alda
Final Words….
As this is the final Newsletter of 2000 it seems appropriate at this time to remind ourselves of the many gifts we enjoy and the true meaning of what we do…..
The joy of creative endeavor is apparent in the faces of children learning and discovering. It’s enough to light up a room and warm a heart! It is apparent in the smile of an judge who sees the product of inspired minds, and in the pride of parents who are witnessing the growth of a child.
As you prepare and gear up for the next challenges this creative problem solving season will bring, remember to take a few moments at every meeting to discuss and appreciate the true value of this wonderful program. The process that each of us, whether a team member, coach, parent, judge or supporter goes through is where the true value of our program is found.
Enjoy the journey!

Team Cheers!
Dear Supporter:
This year we will once again be offering Team Cheers! in our Western Region & State Tournament programs……and hopefully help your team raise a little money for an end of year party! A Team Cheers! is an ad wishing a team, school, team member, coach, judge, or district good luck. Here’s the way it works…
Each 1/8 page (2″ x 2.25″) ad costs $10 (team keeps $5)
¼ page (2″ x 5″) costs $20 (team keeps $10)
½ page (4″ x 5″) costs $40 (team keeps $20)
Full page (8″ x 5″) costs $80 (team keeps $40)
Your team sells the ads to parents, teachers, administrators, PTOs, local businesses and keeps half the money raised. The other half (in a check made payable to “BOCES2”) along with the text for the ad is forwarded to the Affiliate Director at the address listed below no later than February 15, 2001 for inclusion in our WesternRegional tournament program. No later than March 15, 2001 for inclusion in our State Tournament program
I hope this will be a successful fundraiser for your team. Please use (and duplicate) the form enclosed with this letter to take ads. Send all your Western Region & State Tournament ads to the Affiliate Director at the address below, in one envelope along with a check made payable to “BOCES 2”.
