DIrectors MessageFebruary 25, 2003
Hello NY DIers!
Are you excited yet? I know I am!
Before I do another thing I want to take a moment to congratulate the 74 teams that will be competing at the Eastern Regional Tournament this coming weekend! I also want to congratulate the 55 teams that will compete in the Western Regional Tournament on March 8th. And let it not go unsaid that we congratulate the 7 marvelous Central Region teams as well! We are so proud of each and every one of you! Do your best, have fun and know that you are already Champions in our minds! These teams – from wherever they come in our state are truly the PRIDE OF NY! You are the most creative and innovative thinkers in the state!
I want to let you all know that the Schedules for both the Eastern and Western Regional Tournaments are available on our website. You can access them from the “LATEST NEWS†section of our homepage at http://nydi.org From that page you can also access directions to both tournaments.
Shortly, information will start appearing about our State Finals Tournament. Please check our website regularly in the next few weeks as important information will continue to be updated there.
A SPECIAL INVITATION FOR TEAM MANAGERS: if your team is not advancing to State Finals and you would like to continue your journey this year, please consider becoming a State Finals appraiser. Your Regional Director will have a short form for you to fill out and return. We will give you a t-shirt, breakfast, lunch, and reimbursement for up to $25 per person on a room as our thanks for taking on this important role. Please keep it in the back of your mind as something to consider should your team not advance.
During these troubling times for our Nation, I take great pride and comfort in knowing that WE, together are teaching children throughout world the skills of teamwork and creative problem solving. These kids we will cheer for at Tournaments in NY during the next few weeks are the future of our world. I’m so proud that together WE have taught them that no challenge is too big or complex to be solved through hard work, persistence, teamwork and creativity. These skills are the ‘stuff’ that will make for a brighter future for our world! These kids, OUR kids, are an inspiration to us all.
As you enjoy great performances by these teams in the next several weeks, remember that the process that brought them to these tournaments is the important thing – not their eventual rank at the tournament. The process, knowledge and growth we have witnessed since September have been phenomenal! With all these kids have gained since this year’s journey began, each of them has truly become a Champion!
Best wishes to every team! may you all tie for 1st place!
With Sincere Affection, Dee Urban, Affiliate Director Destination Imagination of New York
