NYDI ProjectOUTREACH Team Reaches Out; Continues to Fight Childhood Cancer
A High School team from Clarence Central School District took on the DI Service Learning Challenge, ProjectOUTREACH last year. This team volunteered in the children’s unit of Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. The students taught the patients origami and provided materials to the unit; when the team was not on the unit, other hospital volunteers and staff would utilize the origami kits to keep their small patients busy while undergoing lengthy treatments.
On Sunday, September 9, 2012, this team organized a station for children at the St. Baldrick’s Children’s Cancer Fundraiser in Depew, NY. The team invited DI teams, families, and supporters from all over western NY to help staff the activities. Attendees at the fundraiser were entertained learning origami and trying their hand at a task-based Instant Challenge. These students took on the Challenge last year… and for life!
