Rules of the Road is your go-to-guide for all of the rules and procedures required to participate in a DI tournament. In Rules of the Road you’ll learn the details of the Challenge Experience, how to prepare for tournaments, and how to ensure your Team Challenge and Instant Challenge solutions fit within the rules. You can download it from the Resource Area.

Pro-tip: Teams may want to assign different sections of Rules of the Road to each team member to review and then discuss together at a team meeting!

Team Budget

Each competitive Team Challenge has an assigned budget or expense limit. This budget is the total value of all the materials that are physically included in the teamโ€™s presented solution. Rules of the Road explains how to account for the cost of different types of materials, including which are exempt from inclusion in the Challenge budget, and how to list the value of each item on the required Expense Report form.

Clarifications

If your team has questions about your solution or the rules, you may ask for a maximum of 10 Team Clarifications, which are answered by DI's International Challenge Masters (ICMs). Destination Imagination may post Public Clarifications, which apply to all teams. Rules of the Road explains how to request a Team Clarification, and the relationship between Clarifications, Rules of the Road, and your teamโ€™s selected Challenge.

Instant Challenges require team members to think quickly and produce a solution in a limited amount of time. It accounts for 25% of your teamโ€™s overall score. Rules of the Road explains the rules that apply to all Instant Challenges, and how Instant Challenges are administered at the tournament.
