So, what exactly happens on the day of the tournament?

There is detail in the Travel Guide and in Rules of the Road – but here is a quick primer.

Tournament Day Timeline for Central Challenge

Get Ready

Leave plenty of time to:

  • Unload your props and check for last minute repairs.
  • Team members should be dressed – including costumes, hair, make up.
  • Parents and supporters should be seated at this time.
  • Structure teams need to check in their structure as instructed in the challenge (usually 45 minutes before challenge time)
  • Arrive in prep area at least 20 minutes ahead of time.
  • Check in with the Prep Area & hand in paperwork.
  • The Prep area Appraiser will ask the team a few questions, check the safety of the solution, and verify that it can be presented without damaging the venue.
  • Move props into pre-staging area.

Get Set

  • Team members move props into the launch area.
  • Team Managers are seated.
  • The announcer will do a fun spiel, asking appraisers, audience, and team if they are ready, and…

Go!

  • When the announcer says “Begin” the eight minute solution time begins.
  • Your team does a fabulous performance!
  • When time is over, your team will take a bow to thunderous applause!!
  • Parents and supporters should remain seated until the Appraiser interview is complete.
  • The Appraisers will interview your team members.
  • TMs may not participate in the interview process.
  • After the interview is complete, anyone may help remove props from the performance area and help clean up.
  • Remember that you must remove all of your material from the Prop Zone within 2 hours after your performance.

Scores

  • When your raw scores are ready, your team’s name and team number will be posted at the performance site.
  • One Team Manager and one Team member may pick up the score sheet.
  • The team has 30 minutes to review scores and ask questions. Only objective scores can be questioned.

  • Arrive in prep area 30 minutes ahead of time.

Get Set

The team and one team manager will be called by the Appraisers and escorted to the IC room.

Go!

  • The Appraisers will present the IC to the team.
  • Your team does a fabulous performance!
  • When the IC is complete you will be escorted out of the IC room.
  • After the team and manager leave the IC room, secrecy is very important because the same challenges are used at our tournament and also at others around the world.

Scores

Scores for IC are not distributed. They are posted at the end of the tournament.
