Croton-on-Hudson, NY โ€“ February 24, 2025 โ€“ Tournament season launches for Destination Imagination of New York, Inc. (NYDI) with two regional events. On March 8, 2025 Somers High School in Lincolndale, N.Y. will host the Eastern Regional Tournament and on March 15, 2025 Clarence Middle School in Clarence Center, N.Y. will host the Western Regional Tournament. In total, 57 teams from across the state, including Allegany County, Erie County, Long Island, New York City, and Westchester County, will participate in one of the two events.

Destination Imagination is an international, project-based educational program that encourages innovation, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. The NYDI 2024 – 2025 season began in September and teams have worked for several months to develop unique solutions to one of seven STEAM-based (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) challenges. The Regional Tournaments are the students first opportunity to showcase their hard work in front of a panel of volunteer Appraisers and enthusiastic spectators.

โ€œOur tournaments are a celebration of creativity and the students thrive on an audience of friends, families, and supporters to cheer them on as they present their unique solutions for appraisal,โ€ said Josh Diamond, Affiliate Director and Eastern Regional Director. โ€œWe invite spectators to see as many teams perform as they can. Not only is it free of charge and a lot of fun, but itโ€™s the best way to understand first-hand how the program equips student participants with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in school, careers, and beyond.โ€

Each Regional Tournament wraps up with a Closing Celebration and Awards Ceremony where NYDI acknowledges all of the studentsโ€™ hard work and distributes medals to teams whose solutions excelled. Teams will also learn if their appraiser scores qualify them for the Affiliate Tournament on March 29, 2025 at SUNY Broome Community College in Binghamton, N.Y. In 2024, 30 teams advanced from one of the two Regional Tournaments to the Affiliate Tournament and of those N.Y. teams, 17 qualified for the Global Finals. Global Finals 2025 will take place May 22 โ€“ 25 in Kansas City, MO.
